The Khaki Obsession

14. April 2010

I’m hard addicted to khaki (and to braids, but that’s another topic!). It began in the dressing, with a military jacket.. then a silk shirt. A bag, also… Etc. Etc.

But that’s not all. For a few weeks it goes on in my flat, with home decorating.

Boxes, cushions… and recently a wonderful table runner, found in my favorite home shop.

You’re supposed to ask “what’s the connexion between this table runner and the photos above?”…

Linen table runner

55% Linen 45% Cotton

My boyfriend had enough with my khaki obsession (and particularly with this table runner), so I decided to transform it into a skirt. 20 minutes were enough! The material is made of 55% linen and 45% cotton which raw effect contrasts very well with its fine metallic shine.

What do you need?

A table runner (52cm x 1,05m, you might need to cut on one side) which material should be thick, that’s why the linen/cotton combination fits well. Then you need a diaper pin,  60/65 cm long and 5 cm wide elastic and a separable zip (here 44cm long, what correspond with the runner’s wide side). You can also use buttons.

Sew it

1. First sew a large hem on the longer side, which will be your skirt’s waist.

elastic

2. Hang the diaper pin on the wide elastic and pass it in the hem.

Elastic finition

3. Maintain the elastic on each side, sew it a little bit, and set up the zip along both sides.

(May you cut the runner because it was too long, than sew hems before.)

Zip

4. Try to sew the zip into the first hem, like on the photo above. Be careful not to deform the material by sewing the zip! Finish your work.

That’s all!
